Day 13 – Tillamook – Cape Mears


 

Finally made it to the Pacific Ocean.  We touched our feet in the water and completed are mission to complete following the path of Lewis and Clark’s Expedition.  What took them two year to complete we were able to do in only 13 days!

 

The coastline line of the Pacific Ocean is beautiful.  The weather was perfect.

We drove down the coast to Tillamook to visit Jon and Monica Pyle.  Jon and I lived in Linn Grove area and hadn’t seen each other since high school.  It was a great reunion.  We talked all afternoon.

Later we took a drive to Cape Mears and visited the lighthouse and viewed the beach.

Day 27 – Friday July 12- Bemidji to Escanaba

  Spent the night at Bemidji State Park on the shores of Lake Bemidji.   Woke up early and went downtown to get photos of Paul Bunyon and Babe the Blue Ox. Paul Bunyon was a larger than life legend in the founding of the area.   He was a wood cutter that cleared the woods and found Babe during the winter of Blue snow.   Babe measured 42 axe handles long and a plug of tobacco between her horns.   Love Babe's Butt I remember seeing the statue when I was a little girl visiting with my parents.   I swear that Paul was over two stories high then, but as a little girl he probably did look that tall.   I love the legend and love the statues. The source of the Mississippi River is only a few miles away at Lake Itasca.   It flow into Lake Bemidji and then exits town flowing south.   Downtown Bemidji has a Sculpture Walk that had some very unique pieces of work.
