Day 22 - Sunday July 7 - Leaving the park
Woke up really early but stayed in bed because I didn't want to be bear bait. Got up around 5:15 and ate in the car. Left camp about 6:20 headed back to the Icefield Parkway.
There are lots of places to pull off and hike on the parkway, we happened to choose Bow Lake. So glad that we did. There was nobody there. We hiked along the lake and then walked up by the Lodge. This place was so beautiful and secluded. It really looked like a best kept secret. If I come back, this is where I want to stay.

We stopped at Lake Louise, but the only way to get close to the lake was to take a shuttle bus, which was all sold out for the day. Instead I ate a danish and waited for the stores to open. Got some really good books.
Next we drove on to Banff. Another tourist trap. We needed some water, so we went to the IGA and got some supplied. Decided it was way to busy to even try to hike here and headed out of town.
We were done with the parks, so we started driving south on the western side of the mountains. Came to the Continental Divide.
As we traveled on, we needed to stop and stretch our legs. I chose a spot called Canal Flats. I had not idea how fortuitous this chose would be. As we drove into town we saw a sign that said "source of Columbia River". Hmm We followed the signs and sure enough came to a sign in parking lot that told how the waters in these wetlands went into Columbia Lake that soon formed the Columbia River. So, we had seen where the Columbia River ended, emptying into the Pacific Ocean and now we saw were it started!
